Forty years ago, on the Big Island of Hawaii, Edwin L. Doernberger was sworn in as an attorney. Fifteen years ago, Ed rejoined two former partners to help build an exciting new boutique insurance policyholder practice. Today, Saxe Doernberger & Vita is pleased to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its most distinguished partner.
“Ed’s energy and enthusiasm are undiminished,” said co-founder and Managing Partner, Tracy Alan Saxe. “He’s still one of the firm’s most active litigators.” Ed has extensive appellate experience, having argued before the Connecticut and Hawaii Supreme and Appellate Courts, New York Appellate Courts, and the Second and Ninth Circuits.
He is considered the senior statesman of the firm, making him a natural mentor to younger attorneys. Co-founder Jeffrey Vita notes, “Ed’s in-depth insight into complex insurance litigation issues lets him guide both colleagues and clients to successful resolutions. He enjoys the intellectual challenges and logical procedures of policyholder law, and is happy to share his knowledge and skills with others”.
When not in court, at mediation, or unraveling knotty and complex insurance coverage issues for his policyholder clients, Ed can usually be found either hiking or on his bike, riding off-road across Iceland, Scotland, Ireland, and multiple US states. A lifelong athlete, Ed was selected captain of the Columbia Track team in college, placing third at the 1969 indoor United States Track & Field championships, and was a member of the winning crew on the famous Molokai to Oahu outrigger canoe race, twice.
We are honored that Ed has chosen to share his incredible energy and passion for protecting the rights of policyholders with those of us at SDV. Congratulations on 40 incredible years.
