Ms. VanDerLaan has extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, specializing in insurance coverage issues and disputes involving insurance companies. Ms. VanDerLaans practice is focused on insurance coverage litigation on behalf of policyholders and health providers. Ms. VanDerLaan has handled complex cases involving coverage for comprehensive general liability, professional liability, first party property damage, additional insured and business interruption claims. Ms. VanDerLaan has handled cases involving coverage for construction defects, property damage and bodily injury related to mold, "sick building" syndrome, unfair insurance practices, professional malpractice, breach of fiduciary duty and bad faith. In the area of health care, Ms. VanDerLaan represents health care providers in all disputes arising out of the provider/payer relationship, including reimbursement.
Ms. VanDerLaan joined the law firm of Sachs, Berman, Rashba & Shure, P.C., a large New Haven based law firm, in 1991, where she concentrated in banking and complex commercial litigation. In 1993, she joined the law firm of Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C., also a large New Haven based firm, where she was responsible for managing the firms commercial litigation, including multi-million dollar cases brought on behalf of the FDIC and its servicing agents, as well as numerous banks and other financial institutions. Ms. VanDerLaan joined Saxe Doernberger & Vita, P.C. as a partner in 2001.
Ms. VanDerLaan has successfully tried numerous jury and court trials in state and federal courts and has successfully mediated and arbitrated many disputes. |
