Janeen M. Thomas Of Counsel

Janeen M. Thomas has dedicated her decades-long legal career to the insurance industry, advising and representing sophisticated policyholders on complex coverage issues nationwide. As Of Counsel in the Northeast office of Saxe Doernberger & Vita, P.C. (SDV), she draws on over 20 years of experience to exclusively advocate for policyholders in high-stakes insurance disputes. Her practice includes litigation and arbitration of coverage disputes, insurance recovery strategy development, compliance/due diligence policy reviews, and mitigation of transactional liability risks.

Janeen serves clients across a broad range of industries, including construction, education, energy, entertainment, hospitality, media, pharmaceutical, professional services, railroad, and sports. Her work spans first-party, third-party, transactional risk, representations and warranties, directors & officers and property damage claims, including litigation of professional liability, commercial general liability, bad faith, builder’s risk, additional insured coverage, and contractual indemnity disputes.

Prior to joining SDV, Janeen was a partner at a national law firm, where she developed a thriving litigation practice managing claims from inception through appeal.

Janeen holds several leadership positions within the legal and insurance communities. She leads SDV’s BRIDGE Committee—an initiative promoting Belonging, Representation, Inclusion, Development, Growth, and Empowerment—and the firm’s Mansfield Team. She also serves as Technology Chair of the National Bar Association’s Insurance Section and has held leadership roles with the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, the Westchester Women’s Bar Association, and the National African American Insurance Association’s New York Chapter.

She was included in the 2025 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Insurance Law, and has received multiple honors including the President’s Award from the Westchester Women’s Bar Association and the National Bar Association. She is also a Mentor in the Professional Liability Underwriting Society’s Diversity Leadership and Mentoring Program.

A passionate advocate for inclusive leadership and professional development, Janeen is also a music and arts enthusiast, a Suzuki-trained violinist, and actively serves others through church ministry.
