Steven H. Smith is an experienced attorney focused primarily on the firm’s Subcontractor Insurance Review Program (SIRP), where he leverages his strong background in contract negotiation and regulatory compliance to assist project owners and contractors with optimizing their contracts and insurance policies.
With over a decade of experience in insurance law, Steven brings a broad range of expertise to the SDV team. Resident of the firm’s Northeast office, Steven’s practice is primarily focused on the firm’s Subcontractor Insurance Review Program (SIRP). He works closely with project owners and contractors to assess and refine contracts and insurance policies, aiming to optimize risk transfer strategies and ensure clients are well-protected if claims arise.
Prior to joining SDV, Steven worked in private equity, successfully executing investment strategies from inception, including entity formation, drafting operating and partnership agreements, and contributing to private placement investment documents. He has been instrumental in securing lines of credit, negotiating commercial contracts, and implementing HIPAA privacy policies and anti-fraud measures, ensuring regulatory compliance as a former compliance officer. Steven has also had significant experience in healthcare law, routinely challenging healthcare reimbursement liens in personal injury cases. He has worked extensively with ERISA, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and federal military health plans to challenge subrogation and recovery rights. His expertise also extends to the regulatory side, where he implemented licensing strategies and maintained necessary provider licenses with state insurance departments.
A native of New York, Steven is a passionate Buffalo Bills fan and brings the same level of dedication and enthusiasm to his legal work as he does to his sports fandom.
